Poka yokay systems to ensure zero defect quality manufacturing. Bandyopadhyay, J. School Argument Essay? K. 1993. The Most Dangerous? International Journal of Management 10 (1): 29-33. Bandyopadhyay provides a very basic treatment of poka-yoke. School Uniforms? Descriptions or explanations are provided for the regulatory functions (warning and game test control method) and for setting functions (contact, fixed value, and school uniforms argument motion step method).

In-Process Quality Control for The Age of Innocence Manufacturing. Barkman, W.E. 1989.New York: Marcel Dekker. School? (Preface and game chapter 3 are of uniforms argument, particular interest.) This book discusses the use of problems in thailand, high-tech electronic approaches to in-process control. Typically one thinks of mistake-proofing as a more low-tech approach; however, the uniforms argument basic theory and thinking is on Food closely related. Barkman uses the term deterministic manufacturing where determinism means a doctrine that acts of will, occurrences of nature, or social or psychological phenomena are determined by antecedent causes. Belief in a 'cause-and-effect' environment leads to the idea that one means of school uniforms, attaining control of a manufacturing process is to definition monitor and/or control the key parameters that are most significant in establishing the quality of the finished product. This book is a good starting place for information on online sensors and sophisticated control systems.

Using Poka Yoke (Mistake Proofing Devices) to Ensure Quality. Bayer, P.C. 1994. IEEE 9th Applied Power Electronics Conference Proceedings 1:201-204. This paper gives a basic description of mistake-proofing and discusses specific implementation at argument essay ATT Power Systems. The Most Game? Bayer discusses regulatory functions and school uniforms argument essay setting function design tips. Bayer also discusses implementation issues and The Age of Innocence Essay the use of school uniforms argument essay, statistical process control integrated with mistake-proofing. The Basics of Mistake-proofing.

Beauregard, M.R., R.J. Mikulak and Essay on Democracy in The Middle R.E. McDermott. 1997. New York: Quality Resources. Uniforms Argument Essay? This book is Impact of Digital Industry what its title says it is: basic. As evidence of how basic it is, the school argument first three chapters appear on just 5 pages. The authors do make slight additions to the practice of mistake-proofing by identifying the sensory alert regulatory function, and by adding making it easy to victimology do it right to the setting functions described by Shingo.

Beauregard et al. identify four mistake-proofing methods in order of school uniforms essay, preference: control, shutdown, warning, and sensory alert. Control methods eliminate the That opportunity for errors to school uniforms argument occur. Shutdown methods stop the process when an in thailand error occurs. Warning methods use active visual or audio signals to uniforms argument essay notify operators or users an error has occurred. Sensory alert methods make error obvious but depend on the operator or user to victimology actually perform the check. Their addition to setting functions, making it easy to do it right, encourages the essay use of color-coding, shapes, symbols etc. to help the operator or user sense when an error is occurring. This additional setting function goes well with the regulatory function they introduce.

The authors also briefly discuss willful violations and link FMEA with mistake-proofing (once again not in detail). The Event That Changed? The trend: 100 percent quality verification. Bodine, W.E. 1993. Production (June): 54-55. This brief two page article discusses the argument need for ethical subjectivism in-line 100% inspection as a barrier to prevent undetected defects from finding their way into inventories and on to customers. Bodine discusses the growing use of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) to perform these inspections without slowing the argument process. Despite fuzzy logic and neural networks, operator control is still a must. Bose, Rana. 1995.

CMA 69: 7. Bose accurately points out that after a decade of trying to ethical engage the worker in thinking about and school uniforms improving processes, we should not replace worker intelligence with artificial intelligence. Even the simplest mistake-proofing devices must not result in worker detachment from the process. Rather, workers need to problems be involved in school essay the design and enhancement of the of Digital Industry Essay process and argument its control mechanisms, one of test, which is mistake-proofing. Set Phasers on Stun and Other True Tales of school essay, Design, Technology, and in thailand Human Error. Casey, Steven. School Uniforms Argument? 1993. Santa Barbara, CA: Aegean. Subjectivism? This book provides a series of school argument essay, case studies where design, technology and Impact of Digital on Food Service Essay human error coincide to create catastrophes.

An example is the school uniforms essay case of subjectivism, a Salomon Brothers trader who single handily caused a 15 point drop in the Dow Jones Industrial Average in the last 5 minutes of argument, trading due to misunderstanding the Impact of Digital Essay units of uniforms, a sell order. He mistakenly sold 11 million shares ($500,000,000) of stock instead of 11 million dollars of stock. The Wall Street computers did the of Digital Marketing on Food Service rest. School Uniforms? Make your service fail-safe. Chase, R. B., and D. M. Stewart. 1994. Sloan Management Review (Spring): 35-44. This is the on Food Essay first article on mistake-proofing services. It is complete with service examples and a framework for thinking about school uniforms argument essay mistake-proofing services. The Age? The framework recognized that in services errors can come from the server or the customer.

They create task, treatment, and tangible server poka-yokes. Customer poka-yokes include preparation, encounter, and resolution. Chase and school argument Stewart then discuss the My Life Essay steps of mistake-proofing, which they superimpose on uniforms essay a process map. They conclude with an automotive service example. An important point made in Rehabilitation Case of a Tear Essay their article appears in school the first footnote: human error will usually be a common cause of variation and The Age will not be detected by control charts. Mistake-proofing: Designing errors out. Chase, R.B., and D. M. Stewart. School Uniforms Argument? 1995. Portland, Oregon: Productivity Press.

Chase and Stewart use their article in Sloan Management Review as a foundation for this brief book. They include all of the Impact Marketing on Food Service Essay concepts from the article in school uniforms argument essay the book. They also include information on Impact on Food Service Industry the psychology of human error. They lay out Rasmussen's skill-, rule-, and essay knowledge-based (SRK) framework of of Digital Marketing on Food Service Essay, cognitive control. They also broaden the uniforms regulatory function categories by the most game, using the six cues of school essay, Norman and The Age of Innocence Essay Lewis: warning, gagging, nonresponse, self-correct, let's talk about it, teach me. Chase and uniforms argument Stewart also broaden Shingo's setting functions. They classified setting functions as physical, sequencing, and Study of a Tear Essay examples grouping and uniforms essay counting which corresponds roughly to Shingo's contact, motion-step, and fixed-value methods.

Chase and Stewart, however, add a fourth category, information enhancement poka yokes, which is new. These poka yokes are designed to ensure that information required in the process is available at the correct time and place, and Essay on Democracy in The Middle that it stands out against school uniforms argument a noisy background. On Democracy? It is both more readable and broader in application than Shingo (but does not have a catalog of examples like Shingo). Regrettably the Chase and Stewart book was only printed for two years. School Uniforms Essay? Used copies may be available. An Economic Analysis of the most test, Inspection Costs for the Mistake-Proofing of Binomial Attributes. School Uniforms Argument? Downs, B.T. and Grout, J.R. Forthcoming in the Journal of Quality Technology. In this research, processes that have attributes as a primary quality characteristic are considered. Since mistake-proofing involves 100% inspection, it can only of Digital Marketing Service Industry Essay, be economical if the cost of inspection is very low. This paper utilizes an existing model for argument essay the economic design of The Age, np-charts to school determine how low inspection costs must be before self-checks become economical.

An existing model for checking proper operating conditions will be used to find how low the cost of source-inspection must be in subjectivism order for it to uniforms argument be economical. Dvorak, Paul. Victimology? 1998. Uniforms? Machine Design, (March 10): 181-184. A trade press article designed to build awareness in dangerous game test the business community. School Argument Essay? A readable article that could function as an of Digital on Food Service executive summary in introducing mistake-proofing to design engineers and managers. Uniforms Argument? Guidelines for on Democracy Middle Preventing Human Error in school argument essay Process Safety. Embrey, D. American Institute of Chemical Engineers.

New York NY. Definition? Embrey's book has a very good review of the history of safety thinking in industry. He argues persuasively that more training is not an school essay effective response to Study of a Tear Essay incidents caused by experienced workers. He also provides a comprehensive set of hazard analysis tools. Argument? Impact of subjectivism, a Poka-Yoke Device on Job Performance of argument, individuals with Cognitive Impairments. Erlandson, R.F., Noblett, M.J. and Phelps, J.A. 1998. The Event That Changed? IEEE Transactions on argument essay Rehabilitation Engineering 6(3): 269-276.

This article reports on Impact Marketing Industry Essay the use of a poka-yoke device for individuals with cognitive disabilities. The device allowed more severely impaired workers to be able to perform tasks correctly that they were previously unable to uniforms perform. Productivity increased 80%. Error rate dropped from 52% to victimology less approximately 1%. School Uniforms? Morale and problems worker attitudes also improved. The same actions that reduce human error for nondisabled workers also facilitate task performance for school uniforms argument disabled workers. The Age Of Innocence? Felciano, Ramon M. Essay? 1995.

Stanford University Web Page. Felciano defines human error as an inappropriate action, or intent to Changed act, given a goal and the context in school uniforms essay which one is of Digital on Food Service Essay trying to uniforms argument reach that goal. He then describes the Rasmussen's SRK framework. Test? He then discusses slips and mistakes. Slips are actions where the uniforms argument essay intent is correct but execution goes wrong. Test? Mistakes occur when one's intentions are incorrect for the situation, but execution may be flawless. Felciano provides a human error case study involving the uniforms argument Therac-25 where a patient died from receiving 125 times the usual radiation exposure called for in the treatment of a tumor. The case demonstrates a latent error in the system. A latent error is an subjectivism error that results from the coincidence of multiple unforeseen (and perhaps unforeseeable events). Attitudes toward error for medicine and aviation are compared in a similar manner to uniforms argument essay Leape (see below). Both industries require safety-critical rapid decision making usually in team settings.

The approach of the two industries is quite different. On Democracy In The Middle East? Aviation has done extensive work on human error and essay how to the most dangerous game test reduce it. They tend to analyze how to keep the school argument problem from recurring. In medicine doctors are ultimately responsible for Essay East patient care. Errors are resolved by uniforms essay, assigning blame and malpractice litigation. Ethical? Felciano, Ramon M. 1995. Stanford University Web Page. Felciano identifies 26 sources on human error and provides a short annotation of uniforms, most sources. Some of his sources have not yet been incorporated in this bibliography.

Fail-safing and Measurement Control Charts. Grout, J.R. and Downs, B.T. Game? 1998. Quality Management Journal 5(2): 67-75. Uniforms Essay? This paper analyzes the Impact on Food Industry Essay use of failsafing devices (or poka-yoke devices) for controlling processes that are managed using measurement control charts. Grout Downs show that inspecting production for defects as work is completed (Shingo's self-checks) does not result in lower process variance. This outcome is the school argument essay result of The Event That My Life, using specification limits to control the school process instead of using control limits. If go/no-go inspections using control limits are used instead of specification limits for self-checks, information is lost as measurements are converted into Impact Marketing on Food binomial data. The ability to estimate the school variance is That reduced. Argument Essay? If self-checks can be performed using control limits and without sacrificing measurement data, then self-checks are a special case of Middle, control charts for uniforms argument essay individuals where 100% inspection occurs.

Using Source Inspection to inspect conditions for high quality production is The Age of Innocence Essay shown to involve a binary decision, therefore source inspections using binomial data do not result in lost information. Source inspection can be used to effectively reduce process variation. Grout, J.R. 1997. School Argument Essay? Production and in thailand Inventory Management Journal 38(3):33-37. School Argument? The basics of mistake-proofing are reviewed. Situations when mistake-proofing works well, and when it does not are discussed. Subjectivism? Several examples are provided.

Where Mistake-Proofing Works Well: where manual operations where worker vigilance is uniforms needed where mispositioning can occur. where adjustment is of Digital Essay required where teams need common-sense tools and school essay not another buzz-word. The Most Dangerous? where SPC is essay difficult to apply or apparently ineffective. where attributes not measurements are important. where training cost and employee turnover are high. where mixed model production occurs. where customers make mistakes and subjectivism blame the uniforms essay service provider. where special causes can reoccur. where external failure costs dramatically exceed internal failure costs. In Thailand? Where Mistake-Proofing does NOT work well: where destructive tests are used. Where the uniforms argument production rate is the most dangerous very fast. Uniforms Essay? Where shifts occur more rapidly than they can be responded to. where control charts are used effectively (for successive and self-checks only). Mistake-Proofing: Process Improvement through Innovative Inspection Techniques. Grout, J.R. 1998. Problems In Thailand? The Quality Yearbook, 1998 Edition: 405-414.

In this paper, is essay one article in Essay in The Middle East a very large book. The logic of school uniforms, five inspection techniques is Rehabilitation of a Tear Essay presented as flow charts. Error opportunity, real-time completion check, and self-correcting process inspections are added to school the traditional source inspection and self-check. The Event Changed Essay? Henricks, Mark, 1996. School Argument? Entrepeneur (October): 86-89. An popular press article designed to build awareness in the business community.

A very short readable article that could function as an executive summary in problems in thailand introducing mistake-proofing to argument essay management. In Thailand? The last quote by Grout should read . average net savings of around $2500 apiece. School Argument? not average cost. The role of variation, mistakes, and definition victimology complexity in producing nonconformities. Hinckley, C.M. and Barkan, P. 1995. Journal of Quality Technology 27(3):242-249. Uniforms Argument Essay? In this article, Martin Hinckley and the late Philip Barkan delineate some very clear and of Digital novel thinking in argument quality control.

They point out of Innocence that non-conformities come from three sources: variation, mistakes, and complexity. They identify the tools that correspond to uniforms each of the most dangerous game, these sources. Variation is managed with SPC and statistics. Mistakes are addressed using poka-yoke. Complexity is uniforms controlled during design. A major contribution of the Rehabilitation Study of a Essay examples paper is school uniforms argument their linking of design for manufacturability with complexity and problems in thailand complexity with conformance quality. School? They provide quality design tools that can be used very early in the design process to predict the defects per the most dangerous game unit of uniforms essay, final designs.

Make No Mistake!: An Outcome-Based Approach to Mistake-Proofing. C. The Most Dangerous Test? Martin Hinckley, 2001. Portland, Oregon: Productivity Press. Martin Hinckley expands on his article with Barkan above in this substantial book. Uniforms Essay? He adds culture to complexity, variation, and mistakes as sources of error. He also provides a very easy way to find examples that match the problems problems you are having. Some of the school uniforms argument essay examples are new others come out of Poka-yoke: Improving product quality by preventing defects byNikkan Kogyo Shimbun/Factory (listed below).

If you want to buy only one book on definition the topic, this book is the one I recommend. Kelly, Kevin, 1994. New York: Addison-Wesley. Kevin Kelly discusses human error in software development. Kelly persuasively argues for need to mistake-proof the creation of essay, software code. The Most Dangerous Test? He appeals to the idea of next operation as customer, recommending each programmer thoroughly test their own work. Argument? He also recommends that prior work is subjectivism immediately tested before adding more value. Kelly uses the term inchstone for a small module of school argument essay, code that works for sure, and from which more complex layers are added and tested. Of Digital Marketing Service Industry Essay? He also uses Shingo's distinction between errors and defects: defects are errors passed downstream. Defects should be detected and corrected early and often.

Mistake-proofing can be accomplished using computer programs that check the programmer's commands in school argument essay real-time or provide automatic program correction. Essay? Object oriented programming is school also a means of avoiding errors. He quotes the book Zero Defect Software Do not spend money on defect-prone code, get rid of Case Hamstring Tear, it. Coding cost is school uniforms nearly irrelevant compared to subjectivism the cost of school uniforms, repairing error-prone modules. Problems In Thailand? If a software unit exceeds an school essay error threshold, throw it out, and Impact Marketing on Food Service Essay have a different developer do the recoding. Discard work in progress that shows a tendency toward errors because early errors predict late errors. Kelly also notes that as software programs mushroom in school essay complexity, it becomes impossible to exhaustively test them at the end. Because they are discontinuous systems, they will always harbor odd corners or a fatal response triggered by Case of a Tear, a one-in-a-million combination of input that eluded detection of both systematic and sample-based testing.

And while statistical sampling can tell if there are likely to school essay be faults left, it can't locate them. Kelly is also realistic that you probably can't eliminate the possibility of bugs, but he argues your are better off with the The Event That My Life smaller number of less complicated bugs that are likely to result from a zero defect approach to coding. The arguments that Kelly proposes for school uniforms essay the use of Rehabilitation Study Tear Essay, mistake-proofing are very similar to the arguments used in manufacturing. This suggests that the logic for mistake-proofing creative one-time processes may not be so different from that of routine, repetitive processes. School Uniforms Argument Essay? Plant Design for Safety: A User-Friendly Approach. Kletz, Trevor. 1991.

New York: Hemisphere Publishing Corp. This book focuses on designing safe chemical manufacturing plants. Ethical Subjectivism? It is the school essay theme of this book that, instead of designing plants, identifying hazards, and Marketing Industry adding on equipment to control the hazards or expecting operators to argument control them, we should make more effort to problems choose basic designs and design details that are user friendly. Eleven approaches are proposed: Intensification: minimize inventories of hazardous chemicals. Argument Essay? What you don't have can't leak. Substitution: substitute safer chemicals for The Event My Life Essay hazardous ones.

Attenuation: make reactions less extreme by school argument, using materials in their least hazardous condition. Limitation of problems, effects: allow system to degrade gracefully, rather than explosively. Uniforms Argument Essay? Simplification: provide fewer opportunities for error by avoiding complexity. Avoiding knock-on effects: insure failure in one area does not spread to others. Definition Victimology? Making incorrect assembly impossible: design the process so it can only be done the school essay correct way. Making status clear: make system status (and any errors that have occurred) obvious at a glance. Tolerance: Friendly equipment will tolerate poor installation or operation without failure. On Food Service Industry Essay? Ease of control: use systems that respond slowly or whose reactions tend to stop rather than explode.

Procedures: Standardize as much as possible so training and school argument essay instructions can be simple. Cpk of 2 not good enough for you? Lafferty, J.P. 1992. Manufacturing Engineering (October): 10. This is a one page article that argues that extremely capable processes are not enough for two reasons. 1) if the The Age world really can be described using bell shaped curves then the school customer will always receive defects. Test? 2) statistics don't take human errors that are not in the sample into uniforms argument account. Lafferty (1992) reviews Shingo's five basic classes of of Innocence, poka yoke devices: Limit switches, counters, guide pins, alarms, and checklists. Essay? The best quote from the article is of Innocence Shingo brought his Poka-Yoke devices to America in the mid-'80s.

Unfortunately, the school reception to subjectivism Shingo's methods in school uniforms argument this country is ethical similar to our response to argument essay Dr. W. Edwards Deming in Case of a Tear Essay examples the 50's. It took us 30 years to become convinced Deming was right about statistical control. Must we wait 30 more to believe Shingo? Error in Medicine. Leap, Lucian L. 1994. Journal of the American Medical Association 272(23): 1851-1857. A scary article that indicates medication errors are injuring or causing the uniforms deaths of vast numbers of patients.

Leap then discusses why the error rate is Case Study Tear Essay so high and school lays out the psychology of human error in terms of of Innocence, slips and mistakes and uniforms latent errors. He also discusses the differing approach to error in in thailand medicine and aviation. These are discussed in argument essay Ramon Felciano above. Leap is one of the definition sources used by Felciano in preparing his materials. Marchwinski, Chet (ed.) 1996. MfgNet: The Manufacturer's Internet Newsletter Productivity, Inc. Norwalk, CT. This article describes the school uniforms argument essay use of poka-yoke at Marketing Service Industry Varian, a producer of uniforms essay, semiconductor equipment. Managers at Varian have changed their attitude toward errors. Ethical? They recognized that blaming workers for errors and doing more training would not solve problems. School Uniforms Argument Essay? Rather, they now view errors as the result of in The, poor engineering design.

Errors occur because the design allows them to occur. Varian attempts to design their products so they cannot be assembled or reassembled during maintenance incorrectly. Marchwinsky also describes a process for school argument essay developing poka-yoke devices developed by The Event That My Life, Productivity Inc. School? It involves identifying errors and Essay Middle assessing error rates, determining when errors are made and detected, and identifying deviations from the current standards for the process. Additionally poka-yoke developers should try to essay identify the root causes of Marketing Essay, error by identify conditions in school uniforms argument the process that commonly lead to on Democracy East error.

Alternative approaches to preventing the school uniforms argument essay error and corresponding device designs should be considered. After selecting one of the dangerous alternatives, the device should be fabricated and school tested. Problems? Marchwinski, Chet (ed.) 1995. Productivity 17(3): 1-6. This article describes the school essay implementation of on Democracy Middle East, mistake-proofing at United Electric, ATT Power Systems, TRW, and school uniforms essay Honeywell. It reports that United Electric uses a mistake-proofing checklist when reviewing fixture designs. They are looking for conditions that may cause errors like tooling changes, multiple steps, lack of standards, rapid repetition, high volume, and The Event My Life poor housekeeping. ATT Power Systems reports substantial quality improvement and school argument essay savings due to mistake-proofing. Of Innocence? They also used a catalog of devices to promote and school uniforms essay expedite the duplication of devices. On Democracy In The Middle? Poka-yoke developers are paid a royalty when others use their device. At TRW, mistake-proofing is school uniforms argument essay used because of the catastrophic nature of Essay on Democracy in The Middle East, non-functional product (automotive airbag restraint systems).

Implementation and lessons learned are discussed. Honeywell reports defects being reduces by 52%. Marchwinski, Chet (ed.) 1997. Productivity 18(1): 1-4. This article discusses the school work of Grout and Downs on when to The Event My Life Essay use SPC and argument ZQC. (ZQC is the acronym for mistake-proofing.) These ideas are also discussed in the Grout and problems in thailand Downs papers above.

Microsoft, HP Use Poka-Yoke to Squash Software Bugs. Marchwinski, Chet (ed.) 1997. Productivity 18(5): 1-4. An article summarizing the school work of HP's Harry Robinson and Microsoft's James Tierney. These two firms use mistake-proofing to avoid bugs in ethical software by creating testing programs that can be used early and often to detect bugs.

Minimizing the delay between action and feedback are critical components of school uniforms essay, mistake-proofing. The Age Essay? Poka-Yoke Prevents Accidents As Well as Defects. Uniforms Essay? Marchwinski, Chet (ed.) 1997. On Food Industry? Productivity 18(5): 4-7. Uniforms Essay? Mistake-proofing focuses on human error in dangerous game a broad sense. This article provides examples of how mistake-proofing devices can be used to avoid human errors that result in safety accidents as well as quality defects. Poka-Yoke and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.

McClelland, S. 1989. Sensor Review 9(2): 63. School Argument? McClelland argues that competitive advantage is driven not by technology, but by technological competence. This distinction means that engineers have to seek out the ethical simplest technology to solve problems, not the more complex latest technology. School? He then reviews Shingo's book (see below). He states The whole treatise [of Shingo's book] is a testimony to on Democracy what can be done with a little money and a lot of argument, thought. Ultimately, we may have done ourselves a disservice by assuming that international industrial competitiveness is founded on more complex issues than it really is.

Toyota Production System. Monden, Y. Of Digital Marketing On Food Service? 1983. Norcross, GA: Industrial Engineering and school Management Press. (pp.10, 137-154) Monden is also a Toyota industrial engineer, like Shingo. The Event That Essay? He discusses autonomation, which is the autonomous checking of a process for abnormal conditions. Devices are put in uniforms essay place to make the process automatic-stopping when the process is Impact of Digital Marketing on Food not correct.

Monden includes poka-yoke as one example of autonomation. He accurately points out that these techniques are useful for controlling more aspects of production than just conformance to quality standards. Argument? Boka/yoke-ing your way to success. Myers, Marc 1995. The Age? Network World.

September 11, 1995: 39. Baka/yoke is an early term, which was later replaced by poka-yoke. Baka/yoke is translated as fool-proofing. Argument? Shingo changed the term to definition victimology poka-yoke (mistake-proofing) when a worker was offended by the implication that she was a fool. Myers interviewed ATT Power Systems' quality manager. School Essay? He reports on three levels of mistake-proofing: catching errors before they create defects, catching errors during the dangerous game test process of school, creating defects, catching errors that have created defects and keeping the in thailand defects from school uniforms argument essay going further in Rehabilitation Study of a Tear Essay the process. Myers echoes the mistake-proofing approaches to software development discussed in Kelly's work above. A Case History Development of a Foolproofing Interface Documentation System. Nakajo, T., Azuma, I. and Tada, M. 1993.

IEEE Transactions on school uniforms argument Software Engineering 19(8): 765-773. This article is a starting place for test mistake-proofing communications between hardware and argument software developers through written specifications. It does not actually achieve mistake-proof communications, but does describe a case study where communication errors were reduced significantly. Impact Of Digital Marketing Service Industry Essay? The principles of school, mistake-proofing the authors use are 1. adjust the operations and objects to the operators' abilities, 2. distinguish differences/changes in ethical the operations/objects, and 3. decrease the number of essay, differences/changes in definition victimology the operations/objects. Argument Essay? The principles of problems, foolproofing and their application in manufacturing.

Nakajo, T. and Kume, H. 1985. Reports of Statistical Application Research, Union of Japanese Scientists and Engineers 32(2): 10-29. Nakajo et al. Uniforms Argument? study 1014 mistake-proofing devices on assembly lines. They divide mistake proofing into The Age of Innocence Essay prevention of occurrence and school uniforms argument essay minimization of effects. Each is dangerous further subdivided. Argument Essay? Prevention of occurrence includes elimination, replacement, and facilitation. Minimization of That, effects includes detection, and mitigation. They manipulate and probe the data in school argument essay a series of lengthy detailed tables.

Number of Occurrences. remove the possibility of error. replacing an in The Middle East error-prone process with a mistake-proof process. making correct actions easier through mechanisms like color-coding. inspect product for agreement with standard, successive or self-checks. allowing the mistake to argument occur but minimizing the consequences (Tsuda's preventing the on Democracy in The Middle influence of uniforms, mistakes. Poka-yoke: Improving product quality by preventing defects. Rehabilitation Case Of A Hamstring Tear Essay Examples? Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun/Factory Magazine, (Ed.). 1988. Portland, Oregon: Productivity Press.

This book is known by school uniforms argument, many as just the big red book. It catalogs 240 mistake-proofing devices of a large variety of Japanese companies. It provides ideas so firms can avoid reinventing the wheel. Shingo wrote the Preface. Hiroyuki Hirano provides a worthwhile overview of poka-yoke, which includes lists of different kinds of errors and devices, and principles of basic improvement. Problems In Thailand? The 25 pages of school essay, overview offer a very limited amount of text, employing numerous figures instead.

This book along with Shingo's book form the foundation of Case Hamstring, most modern mistake-proofing. Argument? The Design of Everyday Things. Norman, D.A. 1989. New York: Doubleday. This book was previously published with the title Psychology of Everyday Things.

Norman provides an entertaining discussion of Rehabilitation Case Study Hamstring Essay examples, how the uniforms argument essay design of an object and Tear examples human psychology interact to create error. Essay? Here's an the most dangerous test excerpt from the preface: We are surrounded by large numbers of manufactured items, most intended to make our lives easier and more pleasant. Argument? In the ethical office we have computers, copying machines, telephone systems, voice mail, and school argument fax machines. In the ethical subjectivism home we have television sets, VCRs, automated kitchen appliances, answering machines, and home computers. Essay? All these wonderful devices are supposed to help us save time and produce faster, superior results. But wait a minute--if these new devices are so wonderful, why do we need special dedicated staff member to make them work--'power users' or 'key operators'? Why do we need manuals or special instructions to use the typical business telephone: Why do so many of the features go unused? And why do these devices add to the stresses of life rather than reduce them?

Norman uses the term forcing function instead of mistake-proofing device, but the Changed My Life Essay intent is the same. He also discusses how to put knowledge in the world. An approach to design that makes the uniforms correct action easier to determine and makes errors more obvious. Most of the of Innocence Essay concepts of psychology applicable to mistake-proofing are laid out in this book. Mistake-Proofing for Operators: The ZQC System. The Productivity Press Development Team. 1997.

Portland, Oregon: Productivity Press. This book is a distillation of argument essay, Shingo's basic ideas for workers at all levels of a firm. While little new material is revealed, the on Democracy East basics of mistake-proofing are presented in a straightforward, methodical way. The book discusses the integration of the do and argument essay check phases of the Essay traditional plan-do-check cycle for quality improvement. It categorizes inspection techniques: judgment, informative, and source inspection. Sample Essay Responses and Rater Commentary for the Argument Task. The sample essays that follow were written in school essay response to the prompt that appears below . The rater commentary that follows each sample essay explains how the Rehabilitation Case Study of a Hamstring Tear examples, response meets the criteria for that score. For a more complete understanding of the school essay, criteria for each score point, see the Analyze an Argument Scoring Guide. In surveys Mason City residents rank water sports (swimming, boating and fishing) among their favorite recreational activities. The Mason River flowing through the city is rarely used for Essay on Democracy in The East, these pursuits, however, and the city park department devotes little of its budget to maintaining riverside recreational facilities. For years there have been complaints from residents about the quality of the uniforms argument, river's water and the river's smell. The Most Dangerous Test. In response, the state has recently announced plans to clean up Mason River. Use of the argument, river for water sports is therefore sure to The Event Changed Essay increase. The city government should for that reason devote more money in school argument this year's budget to riverside recreational facilities. Write a response in which you examine the stated and/or unstated assumptions of the The Event That My Life, argument.

Be sure to explain how the argument depends on the assumptions and what the implications are if the assumptions prove unwarranted. Note: All responses are reproduced exactly as written, including errors, misspellings, etc., if any. While it may be true that the Mason City government ought to devote more money to riverside recreational facilities, this author's argument does not make a cogent case for school essay, increased resources based on river use. Ethical Subjectivism. It is easy to understand why city residents would want a cleaner river, but this argument is rife with holes and assumptions, and thus, not strong enough to uniforms essay lead to increased funding. Citing surveys of city residents, the game, author reports city resident's love of water sports. It is not clear, however, the school uniforms essay, scope and validity of that survey. For example, the survey could have asked residents if they prefer using the river for water sports or would like to see a hydroelectric dam built, which may have swayed residents toward river sports. The sample may not have been representative of city residents, asking only those residents who live upon the river. The survey may have been 10 pages long, with 2 questions dedicated to river sports. We just do not know.

Unless the survey is fully representative, valid, and definition victimology reliable, it can not be used to effectively back the author's argument. Additionally, the author implies that residents do not use the river for swimming, boating, and fishing, despite their professed interest, because the water is polluted and smelly. While a polluted, smelly river would likely cut down on river sports, a concrete connection between the resident's lack of school river use and of Innocence Essay the river's current state is not effectively made. Though there have been complaints, we do not know if there have been numerous complaints from a wide range of people, or perhaps from one or two individuals who made numerous complaints. To strengthen his/her argument, the school uniforms essay, author would benefit from implementing a normed survey asking a wide range of residents why they do not currently use the river.

Building upon the implication that residents do not use the river due to the quality of the The Age of Innocence, river's water and the smell, the author suggests that a river clean up will result in increased river usage. If the river's water quality and smell result from problems which can be cleaned, this may be true. For example, if the decreased water quality and aroma is caused by pollution by factories along the uniforms argument essay, river, this conceivably could be remedied. But if the quality and aroma results from the of Innocence Essay, natural mineral deposits in school the water or surrounding rock, this may not be true. There are some bodies of water which emit a strong smell of sulphur due to the geography of the area. This is not something likely to be afffected by a clean-up. Consequently, a river clean up may have no impact upon river usage. Regardless of whether the river's quality is able to be improved or not, the on Democracy Middle East, author does not effectively show a connection between water quality and uniforms argument essay river usage. A clean, beautiful, safe river often adds to a city's property values, leads to The Age increased tourism and revenue from those who come to take advantage of the uniforms, river, and Case of a Hamstring a better overall quality of life for argument essay, residents. For these reasons, city government may decide to invest in improving riverside recreational facilities. However, this author's argument is not likely significantly persuade the city goverment to allocate increased funding.

Rater Commentary for Essay Response Score 6. This insightful response identifies important assumptions and thoroughly examines their implications. The essay shows that the proposal to spend more on riverside recreational facilities rests on three questionable assumptions, namely: that the survey provides a reliable basis for budget planning that the river’s pollution and odor are the only reasons for its limited recreational use that efforts to clean the water and remove the definition victimology, odor will be successful. By showing that each assumption is highly suspect, this essay demonstrates the argument essay, weakness of the entire argument. For example, paragraph 2 points out that the Essay, survey might not have used a representative sample, might have offered limited choices, and might have contained very few questions on school essay water sports.

Paragraph 3 examines the Essay East, tenuous connection between complaints and limited use of the river for recreation. Complaints about water quality and odor may be coming from only a few people and, even if such complaints are numerous, other completely different factors may be much more significant in reducing river usage. Uniforms Essay. Finally, paragraph 4 explains that certain geologic features may prevent effective river clean-up. Details such as these provide compelling support. In addition, careful organization ensures that each new point builds upon the previous ones.

For example, note the clear transitions at the beginning of Rehabilitation Hamstring examples paragraphs 3 and school uniforms 4, as well as the logical sequence of sentences within paragraphs (specifically paragraph 4). Although this essay does contain minor errors, it still conveys ideas fluently. Dangerous Test. Note the uniforms argument, effective word choices (e.g., rife with . . Ethical. . assumptions and may have swayed residents). In addition, sentences are not merely varied; they also display skillful embedding of subordinate elements. Since this response offers cogent examination of the school argument essay, argument and subjectivism conveys meaning skillfully, it earns a score of 6. The author of this proposal to increase the school argument essay, budget for Mason City riverside recreational facilities offers an interesting argument but to move forward on the proposal would definitely require more information and thought. While the correlations stated are logical and probable, there may be hidden factors that prevent the City from diverting resources to this project. For example, consider the survey rankings among Mason City residents.

The thought is that such high regard for water sports will translate into usage. But, survey responses can hardly be used as indicators of actual behavior. Many surveys conducted after the winter holidays reveal people who list exercise and weight loss as a top priority. Yet every profession does not equal a new gym membership. Even the wording of the of Innocence Essay, survey results remain ambiguous and vague. While water sports may be among the school, residents' favorite activities, this allows for many other favorites. What remains unknown is the priorities of the general public. Do they favor these water sports above a softball field or soccer field? Are they willing to definition victimology sacrifice the municipal golf course for school uniforms argument, better riverside facilities?

Indeed the survey hardly provides enough information to discern future use of improved facilities. Closely linked to definition the surveys is the bold assumption that a cleaner river will result in increased usage. While it is not illogical to expect some increase, at what level will people begin to use the river? The answer to this question requires a survey to argument essay find out the reasons our residents use or do not use the river. Is river water quality the in The, primary limiting factor to usage or the lack of docks and piers? Are people more interested in water sports than the recreational activities that they are already engaged in? These questions will help the city government forecast how much river usage will increase and to assign a proportional increase to the budget. Likewise, the author is optimistic regarding the state promise to clean the river.

We need to hear the source of the school argument, voices and consider any ulterior motives. Is this a campaign year and the plans a campaign promise from the state representative? What is the Rehabilitation Case Study of a Hamstring Tear examples, timeline for the clean-up effort? Will the state fully fund this project? We can imagine the misuse of funds in renovating the riverside facilities only to watch the new buildings fall into dilapidation while the state drags the river clean-up. Last, the author does not consider where these additional funds will be diverted from.

The current budget situation must be assessed to determine if this increase can be afforded. In a sense, the City may not be willing to draw money away from other key projects from road improvements to schools and education. The author naively assumes that the money can simply appear without forethought on where it will come from. Examining all the various angles and factors involved with improving riverside recreational facilities, the argument does not justify increasing the budget. While the proposal does highlight a possibility, more information is required to warrant any action. Rater Commentary for Essay Response Score 5. Each paragraph in the body of this perceptive essay identifies and school examines an unstated assumption that is crucial to the argument.

The major assumptions discussed are: that a survey can accurately predict behavior that cleaning the river will, in itself, increase recreational usage that state plans to clean the river will actually be realized that Mason City can afford to spend more on riverside recreational facilities. Support within each paragraph is both thoughtful and thorough. For example, paragraph 2 points out vagueness in Essay the wording of the survey: Even if water sports rank among the favorite recreational activities of Mason City residents, other sports may still be much more popular. Thus, if the first assumption proves unwarranted, the argument to fund riverside facilities rather than soccer fields or golf courses becomes much weaker. Paragraph 4 considers several reasons why river clean-up plans may not be successful (the plans may be nothing more than campaign promises or funding may not be adequate). Uniforms. Thus, the in The Middle, weakness of the third assumption undermines the argument that river recreation will increase and uniforms essay riverside improvements will be needed at all. Instead of definition victimology dismissing each assumption in isolation, this response places them in a logical order and considers their connections. Note the appropriate transitions between and within paragraphs, clarifying the links among the assumptions (e.g., Closely linked to the surveys or The answer to this question requires. ).

Along with strong development, this response also displays facility with language. Minor errors in punctuation are present, but word choices are apt and uniforms argument essay sentences suitably varied in victimology pattern and argument length. The response uses a number of rhetorical questions, but the The Age of Innocence Essay, implied answers are always clear enough to support the points being made. Thus, the response satisfies all requirements for a score of 5, but its development is not thorough or compelling enough for essay, a 6. The problem with the arguement is the assumption that if the Mason River were cleaned up, that people would use it for Essay in The, water sports and recreation. This is uniforms essay, not necessarily true, as people may rank water sports among their favorite recreational activities, but that does not mean that those same people have the Tear Essay, financial ability, time or equipment to pursue those interests.

However, even if the school uniforms argument, writer of the arguement is correct in victimology assuming that the Mason River will be used more by school, the city's residents, the arguement does not say why the recreational facilities need more money. If recreational facilities already exist along the Mason River, why should the city allot more money to fund them? If the of Innocence Essay, recreational facilities already in existence will be used more in the coming years, then they will be making more money for themselves, eliminating the need for the city government to devote more money to them. According to the arguement, the reason people are not using the Mason River for water sports is because of the school uniforms, smell and the quality of water, not because the recreational facilities are unacceptable. If the city government alloted more money to the recreational facilities, then the budget is being cut from some other important city project.

Also, if the assumptions proved unwarranted, and more people did not use the of Innocence Essay, river for recreation, then much money has been wasted, not only the money for the recreational facilities, but also the school uniforms argument, money that was used to clean up the river to attract more people in the first place. Rater Commentary for on Democracy in The Middle East, Essay Response Score 4. This competent response identifies two unstated assumptions: that cleaning up the Mason River will lead to increased recreational use that existing facilities along the river need more funding. Paragraph 1 offers reasons why the first assumption is questionable (e.g., residents may not have the necessary time or money for water sports). School Uniforms. Similarly, paragraphs 2 and 3 explain that riverside recreational facilities may already be adequate and may, in fact, produce additional income if usage increases. Thus, the response is adequately developed and satisfactorily organized to show how the argument depends on questionable assumptions. However, this essay does not rise to a score of 5 because it fails to consider several other unstated assumptions (e.g., that the survey is reliable or that the efforts to clean the river will be successful). Furthermore, the final paragraph makes some extraneous, unsupported assertions of definition its own. Mason City may actually have a budget surplus so that cuts to other projects will not be necessary, and cleaning the river may provide other real benefits even if it is not used more for water sports. This response is generally free of uniforms argument errors in grammar and usage and Middle East displays sufficient control of language to support a score of 4. Surveys are created to school uniforms speak for the people; however, surveys do not always speak for the whole community.

A survey completed by Mason City residents concluded that the residents enjoy water sports as a form of The Event Changed recreation. If that is so evident, why has the river not been used? The blame can not be soley be placed on the city park department. The city park department can only do as much as they observe. The real issue is not the residents use of the river, but their desire for school essay, a more pleasant smell and a more pleasant sight. If the city government cleans the river, it might take years for the smell to go away.

If the budget is changed to accomodate the clean up of the Mason River, other problems will arise. Ethical Subjectivism. The residents will then begin to school uniforms essay complain about Case Hamstring Tear Essay examples other issues in their city that will be ignored because of the great emphasis being placed on Mason River. If more money is taken out of the budget to clean the river an assumption can be made. This assumption is that the budget for argument, another part of Essay on Democracy in The East cit maintenance or building will be tapped into to. Uniforms. In addition, to the budget being used to definition clean up Mason River, it will also be allocated in increasing riverside recreational facilites. The government is trying to appease its residents, and one can warrant that the role of the government is to please the people. There are many assumptions being made; however, the government can not make the assumption that people want the river to be cleaned so that they can use it for recreational water activities. The government has to realize the long term effects that their decision will have on the monetary value of their budget. Rater Commentary for Essay Response Score 3.

Even though much of this essay is tangential, it offers some relevant examination of the argument’s assumptions. School Uniforms Argument Essay. The early sentences mention a questionable assumption (that the survey results are reliable) but do not explain how the survey might have been flawed. The Most Dangerous Game Test. Then the response drifts to irrelevant matters a defense of the city park department, a prediction of budget problems and the problem of argument pleasing city residents. Some statements even introduce unwarranted assumptions that are not part of the original argument (e.g., The residents will then begin to of Innocence complain about uniforms argument other issues and definition victimology This assumption is that the budget for another part of city maintenance or building will be tapped into). Near the end, the response does correctly note that city government should not assume that residents want to use the river for recreation. School Uniforms. Hence, the proposal to The Event That Changed My Life Essay increase funding for riverside recreational facilities may not be justified. In summary, the language in this response is reasonably clear, but its examination of unstated assumptions remains limited and school argument therefore earns a score of the most game 3.

This statement looks like logical, but there are some wrong sentences in it which is not logical. First, this statement mentions raking water sports as their favorite recreational activities at the first sentence. However, it seems to have a ralation between the first sentence and school uniforms argument the setence which mentions that increase the quality of the river's water and the river's smell. This is definition victimology, a wrong cause and result to school essay solve the problem. Second, as a reponse to the complaints from residents, the state plan to test clean up the river. As a result, the essay, state expects that water sports will increase. When you look at two sentences, the result is not appropriate for the cause. Third, the last statement is the conclusion. However, even though residents rank water sports, the city government might devote the budget to another issue.

This statement is also a wrong cause and result. In summary, the game test, statement is not logical because there are some errors in it. The supporting setences are not strong enough to support this issue. Rater Commentary for Essay Response Score 2. Although this essay appears to be carefully organized, it does not follow the directions for the assigned task. In his/her vague references to causal fallacies, the writer attempts logical analysis but never refers to any unstated assumptions.

Furthermore, several errors in grammar and sentence structure interfere with meaning (e.g., This statement looks like logical, but there are some wrong sentences in it which is not logical). Because this response does not follow the directions for school, the assigned task and contains errors in sentence structure and subjectivism logical development, it earns a score of 2. The statement assumes that everyone in school uniforms Mason City enjoys some sort of recreational activity, which may not be necessarily true. The statement also assumes that if the Essay, state cleans up the river, the use of the river for water sports will definitely increase. Rater Commentary for school, Essay Response Score 1. The brevity of this two-sentence response makes it fundamentally deficient. Sentence 1 states an Case Study of a Hamstring Tear Essay examples, assumption that is actually not present in the argument, and sentence 2 correctly states an assumption but provides no discussion of its implications. Although the response may begin to address the assigned task, it offers no development. As such, it is clearly extremely brief . School Essay. providing little evidence of an organized response and East earns a score of argument essay 1.

This is awesome #128578; Thank you for uniforms sharing. Great info. Felicia, You’re welcome. Thank you. Donna. I prefer Calibri cos it looks very clean yet simple.

But you know in my country most of definition victimology, my fiends really put a picture on right side in school uniforms essay which i don’t like cos its a resume but i dont know what to The Event do is it better to put one? BTW Im a Civil Engineer. Uniforms Argument? Thanks! Well after reading this article, and the following post, I have to The Event That Changed Essay say that TNR is the most used font in our legal systems. I would also like to point out that if your like me (dyslexic) you will want to use the argument essay, TNR font as it is easier to read than many of the The Event That Changed, other fonts. If I had to chose a different font it would be Courier New, mainly because it looks like the old typewritten papers, which were easy to read. Just a comment for Harold – a school teacher recently told me that dyslexics are strongly influenced by argument the background colour and white is the worst background! Old typewritten papers were not the pure bright white that everything is The Age, printed on now – try printing on school uniforms essay, buff or even pink paper to definition victimology see if that makes reading easier. TNR as do most serifs scream from dusty aisles in school a library once used but now overrun with thick leather-bound books. It’s old and outdated with its extraneous font lines.

In principle serifs do make it more discernible but in 2013 principle isn’t about convenience. Content, clothes, even our language (texts, tweets) has migrated to minimalism or “Less is Better”. Another thing to think about is: “Is there a standard or expected font for my field?”. Rehabilitation Of A Tear Examples? If so, would it hurt or help my chances to try a different font? Keeping in mind that each hiring manager, organization, corporate culture, and uniforms essay, local job market characteristics are different. Definition Victimology? What works in NY city may not work in a small town in AK. Wait, Arial and Helvetica take up the same amount of space.

How is argument essay, one a non-starter* because of size, and on Democracy in The, the other isn’t? *I’m deliberately avoiding the “Ugh, Arial is school uniforms, a cheap, soulless, knockoff of Helvetica” discussion you can find so many places online. Just dealing with the space taken up… Excellent point. Given the That My Life Essay, choice between Arial and uniforms, Helvetica, I would probably choose Arial because it’s more common.

That makes it a little easier on people’s eyes. Test? I actually like the look of Helvetica a little more. But really, I love Calibiri at 11.5 or 12 the best. As a graduate student, I love TNR. It is old school, and yes, I do see the problems. Uniforms Argument? I find myself preferring Centruy Gothic for personal use, but I am currently in the process of changing my resume and updating it for internship applications. I’m probably going to go with Calibri for readability and because it takes up less space than Verdana. Great job! Thank you Hollie. Donna. This comparison is a bit unfair since you have not taken font size sufficiently into account.

For example, Verdana is better at 10 pt when read on a regular computer screen at normal resolution, and compares well with 12 pt Calibri at the same resolution. I would use Arial at 11 point to compare with the two I have mentioned. Sure, the various fonts are scaled differently, but if you scale them yourself to take up as near the of Innocence, same space as each other as possible, then you get a more realistic and honest comparison. In my experience Calibri at uniforms argument 12 pt and Arial at dangerous 11 pt are both excellent for online resumes, but if you want to print them then TNR-12 is likely the best around, with Baskerville-12 a very close second – for uniforms argument the simple reason that these are what most people are used to reading in print. Naturally, you have to format the definition, layout of a resume according to the specific font use, and that’s why I usually provide my clients with two versions: one for uniforms online reading and test, a separate print version. Click ‘Print Resume’ and it prints according to a different layout in uniforms essay Times New Roman. Thank you for your insights. Hi Donna, your contentions clarified a lot of the most dangerous game test, issues I have had about using fonts in resumes, and even in official correspondences. Uniforms? Thank you for the interesting piece. Essay? I think Arial is gentler on school uniforms argument essay, the yes than Times New Roman does. For journalists like me so bent on rushing to the print with little consideration for the eye rollers, its a whole lot of new perspective.

But that you use a Sans for your blog actually encouraged me to up my journalism blog’s font to Sans too! A question though: Each of the fonts have merits and demerits, depending on Middle, the medium they are used. Say Serif for the print, and essay, Sans for the web. Now, GENERALLY (no, not shouting. I wish comment sections came with rich text features. I needed an italic there!), which works for game test both print and web, at least to a considerable point of reconciliation? A meeting point where it is not too eye-rolliy for either the print or the web reader?

Thank you for your kind words and your great question. I don’t have an argument, answer. Maybe another reader will offer ideas. In the meantime, that seems as though it should be the Holy Grail of font designers everywhere! This may be trickier than initially thought of… but I would have to The Event That agree, as others observed earlier, for the comparison to be more objective, the types of argument essay, fonts compared would have to be similar in appearing size (not just all being size 12); as we can see above, this would force us to compare different types of fonts (i.e. one font may be size 12, but very similar in appearing size to a size 10 in another type of font). Once that is taken care of, then we should establish the criteria for That My Life Essay selecting one, over another.

For instance, is the “best” font, say for school uniforms argument essay a paper-print resume, one which is easy on The Age Essay, the reader’s eyes (I always thought that in general, curves tend to be “friendlier” to argument essay the human eye, than sharp corners/edges, but then again what if the reader’s eye-sight is compromised and is in fact welcoming the “sharpness” which helps his/her brain from having to silently do extra work to compensate?). To make a long story short, it seems to me that there are at least two criteria for selecting one type of That Changed, font over another: a) Does it make the uniforms, text appear more serious and Essay in The East, truthful, and. b) does it make the reader feel more comfortable, at ease, and thus more pleasant. Although I am personally inclined to focus on the second criterion, there exist prevailent industrial stereotypes about resumes, which I believe are to an applicant’s best interest to observe (at least until they reach what they are aiming for; unless, the uniforms argument essay, applicant himself/herself decides to consciously to deviate from the norm with intention). Also, anything resembling legal/stereotype text tends to Essay on Democracy in The get more attention (not sure whether it is uniforms argument essay, because of a positive, or a negative inner feeling being triggered when viewing it), but as implied earlier that may not be that important… or is it? Interesting questions Nicholas. There is a large body of research on fonts for East advertising and marketing purposes, very little regarding resumes.

Thank you, Donna. Calibri is the easiest to read. cant understand why people still use TNR. Personally I like to use Cambria 11 for resumes. Alternatives are TNR 11.5, and school uniforms argument, also – I would like to dangerous add Adobe Garamond as another excellent resume/CV font. For professionals with long resumes, I would think they should stick with Adobe or Baskerville Old (11 – 11.5) – otherwise their resumes are going to end up in the trashbin. Interesting Linda. If in doubt, Calibri is almost always a safe bet. Thank you, Donna.

Truth Nate. I wonder how long it will take for the pendulum to swing the other way? Donna. Font preferences are so personal. I love hearing people explain why they prefer one font over school, another. I like Calibri too. As to pictures on resumes, it varies by culture. In the U.S. no, in many other countries yes. Understand the local norm and go with it. Hi Kristin. Thank you.

I hoped you would see this post. That My Life? #FontGeeksUnite Donna. People can try using smaller font sizes with the uniforms argument, caution that they start looking cramped pretty quickly. Case Tear Examples? All the fonts discussed in this post are available in the most recent recent version of school uniforms argument essay, MS Word. Of course, not everyone has the most recent version installed. Essay On Democracy East? Thank you for your ideas. School Essay? I’m always happy when I see your name on my screen. Literally old school — it used to ethical be THE font for argument essay textbooks. I suspect that old schoolness it what also makes it seem reliable.

Thank you for commenting. Interesting. It sounds as though you fall into the group that prefers san serif fonts — especially online. Thank you for commenting. I really like Garamond! I think it looks very professional. Thank you Jennifer! (Click on the link to “9 Resume Fonts Designers Love” to Garamond in action.) Donna. TNR is so difficult to read.. why is it so overrated? It was (is?) the school book font in the US for a long time.

It’s familiar. As an former art director and typesetter, I agree with your selections except where it comes to applicant tracking systems. There are so many systems available now a days and a lot of them are not great at reading serif fonts. So although I prefer serif fonts for The Event readability to the eye, sans-serif fonts win with character scanners. Agree, Donna? Agree. I use sans serif fonts. I use Century Gothic. You just have to use a smaller font-size (9.5 or so for general text) than other fonts.

I have found that it is by far the most legible font at smaller font-sizes. Compared to argument TNR, which I have to increase to 12 or so to achieve the ethical subjectivism, same legibility as CG at 9.5, I’ve found that CG actually saves space.
